Sci-fi classic Blade Runner to get big screen re-release in NL

Fans of the 1982 sci-fi film Blade Runner will get a new chance to see the movie on the big screen. The film will be re-released in the Netherlands on November 1, including on IMAX screens for the first time ever.

Ticket sales for director Ridley Scott’s final version of the film officially began on Wednesday, Warner Bros. said.

A spokesperson for the film distribution firm told NL Times that the movie’s re-release was scheduled to coincide with the November 2019 setting of the dystopian classic. This will give the audience a chance to discuss what Scott and screenwriters Hampton Fancher and David Peoples correctly -or incorrectly- predicted about the future.

Blade Runner features Harrison Ford as a former cop brought back out of retirement to track down a group of escaped, uncontrolled androids in Los Angeles. The film’s dark, sweeping backdrop sets a morose tone, and presents many moral questions about what it is to be alive or human.

Dutch actor Rutger Hauer, who died in July at age 75, starred in the film with Ford, Sean Young, Daryl Hannah and M. Emmet Walsh. It was one of Hauer’s best known hits in his 50-year career.
