All Thomas Cook, Neckermann flights scrapped for Tuesday

All Dutch flights scheduled for Tuesday on Thomas Cook or Neckermann were scrapped as the parent company continued to deal with severe financial problems. Thomas Cook Group Plc declared bankruptcy early on Monday, and the company assured travelers that those using the Dutch branch of the travel agency would still be able to complete their holidays.

"In the past 24 hours we have looked into the possibilities of continuing to carry out the booked trips with Thomas Cook Nederland BV" which includes travel on Thomas Cook and Neckermann Reizen, the tour operator wrote in a statement. "Unfortunately, despite all efforts, this was not successful."

Travelers set to go on vacation shortly might also lose their hotel rooms and other forms of accommodation, the organization said.

Passengers scheduled to travel later in the week were advised to follow the websites for Thomas Cook, Neckermann, and SGR, the nonprofit organization which guarantees travel or reimbursement for passengers booked through affiliated companies.

Some 10 thousand customers are actively traveling on an itinerary booked through Thomas Cook Nederland. The Dutch firm handles 400 thousand customers annually.

"We think it is a great shame that we cannot carry out the holiday that you have booked. We offer our sincere apologies for this situation."

The company employs about 200 people in the Netherlands, and about 21 thousand total in 16 countries. Thomas Cook Group Plc estimated it makes travel arrangements for 22 million customers every year.
