Arrests made in two Rotterdam hand grenade cases
The police arrested a 29-year-old man from The Hague and a 27-year-old woman from Amsterdam in connection with two hand grenade incidents in Rotterdam in March, the police said in a statement.
On Saturday, March 23rd, a passerby noticed two hand grenades tied to the roller shutter of a souvenir and shisha store on Schiedamseweg. On Thursday, March 28th, an explosion damaged a shisha lounge and a number of parked cars on Schiedamsedijk. Fragments of an exploded grenade were found at the roller shutter of the shisha lounge.
The police immediately launched investigations into both incidents, and that quickly led them to believe the incidents were linked. A DNA match led the police to the suspects from Amsterdam and The Hague. They were arrested on August 13th, the police announced on Thursday.
Both suspects have been arraigned. The man was remanded into custody for 90 days. The woman was released from custody, but remains a suspect.
