Grand Prix to hit Zandvoort on 3 May 2020

The Dutch Grand Prix will happen in Zandvoort on May 3rd next year, according to the Formula 1 calendar for 2020 that was published on Thursday.

The calendar still needs to be approved at a meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council on October 4th, but that is normally just a formality, according to NU.nl. There will be a total of 22 Grand Prix races next year, including in Vietnam for the first time ever and the return to Zandvoort.

That Formula 1 is returning to the Netherlands became clear in May this year, when the Zandvoort circuit and the Formula One Management signed a three year contract.

During an information meeting for Zandvoort residents on Tuesday, managing director of the circuit Robert van Overdijk said that the only significant changes that will be made to the Zandvoort circuit will be on the last corner. "That gives the drivers an extra catch-up opportunity and that is the most important adjustment. All adjustments that we are going to make are within the current gates of the circuit", he said, according to Nu.nl.
