ING brings Apple Pay to the Netherlands

Mobile payment method Apple Pay finally launched in the Netherlands on Tuesday, over 4.5 years after the service was introduced. The service allows users to pay for goods and services using their Apple devices instead of debit cards at contactless terminals where Maestro is accepted.

The initial rollout in the Netherlands is only with ING customers, though rumors persist that bank ABN Amro is also in talks with the tech company to bring the service to its clients. Valid customers can use facial recognition or their fingerprints to approve payments in store, and also the Apple Watch just by touching a pay terminal.

In-app payments and transactions in Apple’s Safari browser can also be performed with ING, Apple Pay and the Apple Wallet.
