WOW air grounds all flights, including daily flight between Amsterdam and Reykjavik

Icelandic airline WOW air canceled all its planned flights with immediate effect. This includes the daily flight between Amsterdam and Reykjavik. Both the flight to and from Amsterdam on Thursday are listed as canceled on Schiphol's website.

The airline grounded all its flights as part of a deal with its creditors, with whom the WOW air directors have been in talks since Monday, according to NU.nl. The airline has been facing financial difficulties for some time, not making profit and having trouble paying debts. Late in 2017 it seemed that WOW air would be rescued by a takeover, but after long negotiations, the deal fell through on Sunday.

WOW air advises affected customers to check for available flights with other airlines. "Some airlines my offer flights at a reduced rate, so-called-rescue fares, in light of the circumstances", the airline said in a travel alert. Passengers who bought their tickets with a credit card can contact their bank to try and reverse their ticket cost. Those who booked through an EU travel agency can contact the agency to arrange an alternative flight, the airline said.

"Passengers may also be entitled to compensation from WOW air", the airline said. "In case of a bankruptcy, claims should be filed to the administrator."
