Suspected arsonist arrested for convict's murder in Brabant town
A 21-year-old man was arrested for involvement in the murder of 51-year-old Henk Baum from Nistelrode. Baum, who had a criminal record, was gunned down in his car in the Noord-Brabant town of Schaijk on March 22nd.
The suspect was already in custody on suspicion of involvement in several cases of arson and an explosion in the Oss area in early October. He was arrested in his cell in the Middelburg Penitentiary Institution on Friday, the police announced on Monday.
The investigation into Baum's murder is still ongoing, despite this suspect's arrest. "We have gained a lot of information in the investigation into the murder of Henk Baum. Data that may also be important in other cases. We take into account that several people were involved in the murder and do not exclude that Baum was murdered on assignment. We're therefore explicitly looking at potential order givers in our investigation", the police said.
In addition to involvement in Baum's murder, the police also suspect that the 21-year-old man was involved in an arson in Nijmegen and a series of car thefts in Noord-Brabant, Limburg and Gelderland. The police also have reason to believe that he was involved in an incident in which a hand grenade was thrown into a home on Keldermansstraat in Eindhoven on September 29th.
