Schiphol growth must decrease in coming years, CEO says

The growth of Schiphol airport must "decrease" in the coming years, according to recently appointed CEO Dick Benschop. He is making agreements about this with the airlines, which in turn must be more picky about their new destinations, he said in an interview with Het Parool.

"A new start is absolutely necessary", Benschop said to the newspaper. From 2020, the airport must grow in line with the economy, he said. "We do not need the amount of growth we have seen in recent years. Only moderate growth is in line with our two objectives: economic yield and balance with the environment."

According to Benschop, Schiphol is still well within the environmental limits. "Since 2008, the total number of inconveniences around Schiphol has remained within the agreed standard and has fallen compared to 2000", he said to the newspaper.
