Fugitive drug baron arrested in Roosendaal
Former drug baron 73-year-old Kobus L. was arrested in a home in Roosendaal on Wednesday. The Rotterdam man was on the run after he was convicted of manslaughter in July for killing his son-in-law four years ago. L. is now in custody, the Public Prosecutor confirmed to NU.nl.
L. has to serve 12 years in prison for his son-in-law's death.
The son-in-law's body was found wrapped in plastic in the Markkanaal near Breda in July 2014. He was shot dead in his bedroom in Roosendaal two days earlier. L. was one of the last people to see his victim alive. He was arrested in March 2015.
Last month the court in Breda ruled that there is enough evidence to prove that L. killed his son-in-law, though the motive for this never became clear.
According to his lawyer, L. was unable to attend his trial last month because he suffered from severe lung cancer and arteriosclerosis. After the verdict, the 73-year-old man was nowhere to be found.
In the past L. was sentenced to 15 years in prison for cocaine trafficking. He was released early in 2003.
