Pride Amsterdam organizers pleased with 2018 edition

The organizers of Pride Amsterdam is satisfied with a successful edition this year. All nine days of the festival were well attended and pleasant, and there were no noteworthy incidents, a spokesperson for the organization said to ANP.

Pride Amsterdam started last week with the Pride Walk demonstration through Amsterdam. Between 10 thousand and 12 thousand people participated this year, compared to 7,500 last year, the spokesperson said. "We think that's because the Netherlands is becoming more intolerant, which automatically creates a counter-sound."

The organization is pleased with the increasing number of companies that want to associate with Pride. "It is necessary because of the finances, but at the same time it is also true that companies are the new activists", the spokesperson said to the news wire.

According to the spokesperson, steps were taken in the focus of this year's edition -more acceptance in the sports world - but there is still a lot of work to do. Of all sport associations under NOC*NSF, only the rowing association currently openly associates itself with pride. A volleyball club also participated in Pride this year. "But not supported by its own union. So there is still a lot of work to be done. It isn't about tolerance, but about acceptance."
