Dutch King not allowed to put solar panels on palace
King Willem-Alexander wants to install solar panels on palace Huis ten Bosch, but can't due to a law that states that you can not change the appearance of national monuments. He is not giving up though and will continue to look for a way, he said in Amsterdam on Wednesday, RTL Nieuws reports.
The King attended a meeting about energy in Amsterdam on Wednesday and spoke to members of a homeowners association's sustainability committee. The association wants to install solar panels on five houses on Marcantilaan. Rolf Steenwinkel, director of Amsterdam Energie, supports the King in his plans to get solar panels installed at the palace in The Hague.
In 2014 Amsterdam changed its policy regarding monuments, so that solar panels can be placed on them under certain conditions, according to the broadcaster.
In April 2011, Queen Beatrix also complained about the bureaucratic obstacles that stand in the way of solar panel installations. Then she wanted to put solar panels on the greenhouse at Huis ten Bosch.
