Police seize 47 neglected dogs
On Tuesday the animal police, working with the national inspectorate for animal protection LID and the Public Prosecutor, seized 47 dogs and puppies in a commercial building in the municipality of Hof van Twente. The animals were found in appalling conditions and all showed signs of neglect, the police said in a statement.
A 63-year-old man from the same municipality was arrested for illegal trade in dogs and withholding the necessary care.
A large number of the animals were severely neglected. They had multiple injuries, were emaciated and were covered in feces. 24 of the seized dogs are puppies. Two of them were in bad shape.
In addition to the dogs, the investigators also found rotten meat and a dead puppy in a deep-freeze.
The police seized a number of items related to illegal trade in dogs. The dogs were taken to an address where they are receiving the proper care. The suspect is in custody for questioning.
