Footballer goes into cardiac arrest during match in Dwingeloo

A player for football club Dwingeloo's second team went into cardiac arrest during a match on Sunday morning. The 27-year-old man was resuscitated by teammates. He was rushed to hospital and his condition was stable on Sunday afternoon, the secretary of the football club said, according to the Telegraaf.

The Dwingeloo 2 player collapsed during the match against Oldeholtpade. "His teammates first thought he had an epileptic fit, but he later lost consciousness", secretary Albert Nijstad said, according to the newspaper.

Teammates resuscitated him using an AED that was at the field. "The guys have first aid training and acted decisively. We have a lot of respect for that", Nijstad said. The player was rushed to the university medical center in Groningen.

The club is shocked by the incident, according to Nijstad. They considered canceling the Dwingeloo first team match on Sunday afternoon. "But when we heard that his condition was stable, we decided to let the first team match go through."
