Man stabbed on Arnhem bus; suspect arrested

A man was stabbed on a public bus on Rijnstraat in Arnhem on Tuesday evening. He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. The police arrested a suspect later in the evening, De Gelderlander reports.

The suspect gave a disturbed impression at the time of the stabbing and the police believe he was under the influence of alcohol. He attacked the man on the bus and fled. The victim was taken to hospital. His condition is stable, a police spokesperson said to the newspaper.

The police spread the suspect's description on Burgernet. He was arrested later in the evening. "We received a report of a disturbed man somewhere in Arnhem. He turned out to match the description exactly, upon which we arrested him."

The circumstances surrounding the incident and the suspect's motive for the stabbing are still under investigation. At this stage it seems that victim and perpetrator don't know each other. The police spoke to witnesses and offered them victim support. "The were all very shocked." the police spokesperson said.
