KLM flights halted in Amsterdam as airline faces power cut

A power outage affecting Dutch airline KLM forced the airline to halt all flights from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. The electricity cut had a challenging impact on multiple KLM system around 2 p.m., and some passengers complained on social media platforms that the troubles had persisted for hours.

"This failure causes a disruption for our operational systems that are based on the ground. Our service centers are currently not or hardly accessible," KLM said in a statement. "We are working hard on a solution. At the moment it is not clear when the disruption will be solved," the airline added with their apologies.

Schiphol Airport said the power failure was only affecting KLM flights. Some services were slowly being relaunched at 3:15 p.m., the airport said on Twitter.

"The aircraft that have already departed are not affected by the disruption, safety is not compromised," KLM said.

There were no major power outages in the region at 3:30 p.m., according to the website of electricity infrastructure firm Liander. A portion of Amsterdam Oost was experiencing troubles when a cable failed at about 2:20 p.m. leaving fewer than 250 clients without power. Service was expected to be restored by 5:30 p.m.
