Police investigate fatal stabbing in Amsterdam Oost
The Amsterdam police performed a forensic investigation in a home on Sumatraplantsoen in Amsterdam Oost on Sunday morning, after a man was found in the home with multiple stab wounds on Saturday evening. The man passed away of his injuries in hospital. One suspect was arrested, NU.nl reports.
Police officers responded to the home around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, a police spokesperson confirmed to the newspaper. The critically injured man was found inside. A knife was found on the pavement in front of the home. A suspect was arrested on Sunday.
So far the police released no information about the identity of the victim, only saying on Twitter that he lived in Amsterdam. According to AT5, the victim is a middle aged man.
Exactly what happened is not yet clear. Neighbors told the Amsterdam broadcaster that they noticed nothing out of the ordinary on Saturday night.
