Schiphol lets travelers book security check appointment in new experiment

In a new experiment to manage holiday crowds, Schiphol is allowing travelers to go through security checks by appointment for the next two weeks. Travelers who made an appointment will receive a Personal Security Pass and can then go directly to their security check, without waiting in line, ANP reports.

This experiment only involves people traveling to one of the Schengen countries between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A reservation gives you a 15 minute block to go through the security check. Making a reservation is free of charge, and can include up to five people. Travelers can book an appointment on the Schiphol app or website.

The experiment will run for two weeks, until December 11th. "We want to see how it works and what problems we might encounter. If things go well, the intention is to extend the test", a spokesperson for Schiphol said to ANP. The airport hopes that this system will improve the "travel experience at Schiphol and reduce waiting times".

Schiphol previously tested other measures for speeding up security checks, such as a separate, faster line for people traveling with little or no hand luggage. And more measures are in the works. "We are always working on how we can better manage this process. This is one of the ideas", the spokesperson said to the news wire.
