Oil tanker stranded on Zeeland coast after crash

An oil tanker is stranded on the Westerschelde near Bath, Zeeland after it crashed with a bulk carrier around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. There is no danger to the environment, according to local safety office Veiligheidsregio Zeeland, AD reports.

Exactly why bulk carrier Usolie and oil tanker Seatrout crashed, is not clear. The tanker is stranded in about the same pace as where container ship CSCL Jupiter got stuck last month. Dutch shipping traffic is unhindered, according to AD.

A number of tugboats and Rijkswaterstaat service vessels are around the ship, though it can't be pulled out yet due to the low tide. The bulk carrier could sail on after the collision.

The Seatrout was traveling from Antwerp to the sea. It sails under a German flag and is 188.18 meters long and 32.23 meters wide. The Usolie sails under a Liberian flag and is 235 meters long and 32.2 meters wide.
