Haaksbergen couple questioned over friend missing in Turkey

Haaksbergen couple Bjorn and Derya Breukers spent Thursday night at a Turkish police station, according to newspaper AD. The Turkish police are questioning them about the disappearance of their friend, Joey Hoffmann, and a magistrate decided to keep them over night.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to NU.nl that the duo are being questioned. As far as is known, they are not suspected of anything. Though the Turkish police do suspect that Hoffmann fell victim to a crime.

Bjorn and Derya were also missing for some time, until the police managed to make contact with them earlier this week. According to RTL Nieuws, the police want to know where the two were the past weeks.

Hoffmann traveled to Silifke in Turkey with the couple. They are planning to build a home there, and Hoffmann wanted to help. He apparently started back to the Netherlands between July 8th and 10th, but never arrived. His family reported him missing.

The Turkish police investigated the Breukers couple's car as well as the site where they want to build the house. The Dutch police are in contact with the Turkish police, but there is currently no investigation in the Netherlands, according to NU.nl.
