Amsterdam street assassination foiled by alert cops at last minute

The Amsterdam police foiled an assassination plot last week by arresting two suspects in Almere on their way to commit murder, the police said in a statement. The suspects were arrested in a car with stolen registration plates on the Hogering in Almere at around 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 1st.

The detectives believe that the two men, aged 32 and 45 years, were on their way to assassinate a well-known Amsterdam criminal. Both men were armed. One of them was wearing a double layer of clothes and plastic gloves. The other was wearing a winter hat, despite the warm weather, and had plastic gloves on his person.

The men are suspected of preparing for an assassination. A 39-year-old woman was arrested in Almere later that night on suspicion of involvement.

During an ongoing investigation, the police received information that the potential victim is being targeted in an assassination plot. During the investigation, the police uncovered a car believed to be used by the suspects and started keeping an eye on it. When officers saw the car driving in the direction of the potential victim, with the people inside being suspiciously dressed, they decided to intervene, according to AT5.

According to the police, the suspects and the potential victim all have criminal records. "They are known to the police for previous serious crimes", investigator Olivier Dutilh said to AT5. He added that they are well known in the Amsterdam criminal environment. The victim was notified that he was in danger before the arrests were made.

The suspects were questioned, but so far did not reveal anything new to the investigators, the police said.

According to AT5, the victim previously lived in Amsterdam, but moved to Almere after a previous threat on his life. The man is also no longer staying at his Almere address, for his own safety and that of those around him.
