Mom pleads for safe return of American teen missing in Netherlands

American mother Sabrina Lee traveled to the Netherlands to look for her missing 16-year-old daughter, whose been missing for almost a month. All that is known about Maggie's disappearance is that she was talking to a boy from The Hague area online and that she got on a plane to the Netherlands. Sabrina is desperately hoping for Maggie's safe return. "Maggie, I love you and I'm waiting for you, please come home", she said to RTL Nieuws.

"I think she fell in love, or trusted someone she's never met", Sabrina said to the Dutch broadcaster. "To my knowledge nothing was wrong. She is a very smart girl, she speaks three languages, plays several musical instruments and only got good grades at school. This summer she was going to visit Harvard for a few weeks."

Maggie tried to run away once before in February. Then she was stopped by the American police at an airport. Her mother took her laptop away. "I saw that she was in contact with a Dutch boy on Facebook. So I explained to her that it was dangerous and I thought she understood me. So after a while I gave her laptop back, but now she's gone."

The Dutch police are searching everywhere for the American teenager, but giving extra attention to The Hague. "We are very concerned", a spokesperson for the police said to RTL. "Thanks to the passenger list from the plane, we know that Maggie arrived in the Netherlands, but we have no idea what happened to her afterwards. Thanks to the chat conversations we only know that the boy comes from The Hague area."

The police are circulating Maggie's photo in the Netherlands and so far received 25 tips, from across the country.

According to Sabrina, Maggie likes to wear jeans and gray hoodies. "She has long black hair and a red scarf. And a backpack with little hearts. She looks Asian. I'm afraid she's in danger because she's in a country she doesn't know and has little money."
