Netherlands, Belgium airport parking costs on the rise

Parking at airports in the Netherlands and Belgium is becoming increasingly expensive, though the price increase is more significant in Belgium, according to Vliegveldinfo.nl. The site surveyed 16 airports in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Parking in Germany is the cheapest, the Telegraaf reports.

The average price for a week's parking at an airport in the Netherlands is 59.39 euros. In Belgium travelers will pay an average of 77.70 euros, and in Germany 47.30 euros. Belgium's average parking price was hiked up by sharp increases in parking fares at regional Belgian airports. Parking costs at Oostende Brugge Airport increased by 31 percent and at Luik Airport increased by 50 percent over the past year.

Passengers are better off to reserve a parking space online, although this usually has to be done some time in advance, researcher Guus Wantia advised. Travelers can also check for usually cheaper alternatives in the immediate vicinity of airports, instead of using the airport's own parking.

The most expensive parking is at Brussels Airport, 99 euros per week. Luik Airport comes in second place with 90 euros per week, and Schiphol in third with 82.20 euros per week.
