New Amsterdam subway station to host large modern art works

The municipality of Amsterdam is hard at work getting artworks for the subway stations along the city's new Noord-Zuid subway line. The Rokin station will feature huge mosaics made of stone by British-French artist duo Danie Dewar and Gregory Gicquel, Het Parool reports.

The artist duo created mosaics of everyday objects - a cat, a teapot, a nutcracker - on the walls along the platform. These modern art works will later be joined by numerous archeological discoveries made during the construction of the subway line. "Past and present come together in a surprising way at Rokin station", according to the municipality.

The Rokin station will open briefly next week to give the public a chance at a peek at the works of art. On Thursday, March 23rd, between 5:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. members of the public can get a 10 minuted tour in small groups. As the number of spaces is limited, the municipality advises those interested to reserve a spot on this site.
