Hate crime possible in Polish man's murder at Amsterdam gay cruising spot: Police
The man who was stabbed to death at a known meeting place for gay men in Amsterdam's Oosterpark on Friday was 33-year-old Jan Majdanski from Poland, the police announced on Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday. Majdanski was openly gay and lived in Rotterdam.
The police also revealed that they are considering other scenarios in addition to a mugging gone wrong. It is possible that Majdanski was killed because of his sexual orientation or trouble in a relationship.
It is unclear whether anything was stolen from Majdanski.
The police are calling on witnesses to come forward. Investigators also want to talk to anyone who can give them more information about Majdanski himself and his life.
After the broadcast of Opsopring Verzocht, the police received six tips regarding this case. Officers are investigating each one, a spokesperson said to Het Parool.
