Video: Witness films ATM bombing in Overijssel town
When 55-year-old Eddy Rietman from Colmschate glanced out of his kitchen window around 5:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, he was shocked to see two masked men planting explosives in a Rabobank ATM across the street. As the upstanding citizens that they are, Rietman's wife phoned the police while Eddy snuck onto his balcony to film what happened on his phone.
Eddy hid himself out of sight on the balcony and recorded the ATM bombers on his phone. "I don't think they had guns with them, but of course you never know with that ilk." Rietman said to newspaper De Stentor.
On the video you see two men struggling with the ATM and then backing off. A few seconds later there's an explosion.
"The explosion really made a big bang. So loud that my phone just fell out of my hands", Rietman said. That is probably why the last bit of the ATM bombing and the perpetrators' escape on a scooter was not caught on video. "I think that's a shame. I really thought I filmed everything."
The police arrived at the scene within five minutes, but the ATM bombers managed to get away. The police are investigating.
