Fraudulent "Green Bibles" pulled from shelves: Not recycled from old bibles

The paper used for the last week presented "Green Bibles", turned out to not be as green as promised. These bibles, which were meant to be a source of inspiration for sustainable living, are made of normal paper, not recycled bibles, NOS reports.

The publisher of the Green Bibles, Royal Jongbloed, announced in a statement that fraud was committed with the paper used in the bibles and that an employee was suspended for it. How or why this fraud was committed is unclear. The publisher is not available for comment.

The Green Bible was the initiative of Dutch bible society NBG. Over the past two years volunteers of the NBG collected over 100 thousand old bibles for the project. It seems that these collected bibles ended up in the "normal recycling circuit", according to the society. The Green Bibles are made of plain paper. "We feel deceived", the furious NBG said.

Royal Jongbloed called the situation very unfortunate iin their statement and decided to give all 7,500 copies of the not-so-Green Bibles to the NBG. Those who bought such a bible can get their money back if they return the book.
