Striking conductors could disrupt Amsterdam train traffic

Train travelers in Amsterdam may have to deal with cancelled or delayed trains during the evening rush hour on Monday. NS expects "possible disruptions" due to striking train drivers and conductors from 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

The train drivers and conductor will hold a meeting at Amsterdam Central Station starting at 5:00 p.m. They will not work during this meeting. It is as yet unclear how many train drivers will be taking part in the strike, and therefore the possible consequences are also not clear.

"Interruptioins in Amsterdam may also have implications for travelers in other parts of the country, as many trains travel along or via Amsterdam", NS warsn on its wesite. "We are monitoring the situation closely and will keep you informed through ns.nl and the NS journey planner app."

The train drivers and conductors are protesting against the new timetable, Andries van den Berg of FNV Spoor said to NU.nl. He also doesn't know how many railway workers will participate. "Any driver who is planning to do so, will have to decide at the time whether he will indeed leave a train full of passengers standing still. This is not an easy decision; you affect the passengers enormously."

Van den Berg warns that even if only three drivers decide to go through with the strike, the disruption to train traffic will still be large.
