Prison time demanded against embezzling Salvation Army employee

On Tuesday the Public Prosecutor demanded 2 years in prison, six months of which conditionally suspended, against a 37-year-old man who embezzled over 858 thousand euros from the Salvation Army. The man used the money to fund his gambling habit, according to the Prosecutor, NU.nl reports.

The man wored for the Salvation Army in Utrecht in the youth protection department. He embezzled the money in small amounts over six years using fake invoices from care providers. The fraud was discovered when a colleague covered his work while he was on sick leave. The man was fired on the spot.
