Dutch lack knowledge on cybercrime; information campaign launched

The Dutch population really does not know enough about the dangers of cybercrime or how to protect themselves against it, according to a study by the Ministry of Security and Justice. To remedy the situation, the Ministry is launching an information campaign. The study focused on cyber security awareness and skills in the Netherlands, Het Parool reports. It found that half of the population don't know what ransomware is, while it is the fastest growing form of malware on the internet. Many Dutch also underestimate their chances of falling victim to cybercrime. More than half of the population fail to make regular backups. State Secretary Klaas Dijkhoff of Security and Justice is launching an information campaign along with market parties. The campaign, called Alert Online, will run from October 3rd to 13th. It is aimed at increasing awareness and skills in the field of cyber security.
