The Netherlands' budget for fighting crime hasn't increased since 2009, according to Statistics Netherlands. From 2009 to 2015 government spent 12.9 billion euros a year on crime fighting.

In the period before that, the budget for crime fighting increased substantially. Between 2002 and 2009 it increased from 8.2 billion euros to 12.9 billion euros.

While the total amount of the crime fighting budget remained unchanged, there were changes in the amounts spent on various aspects of crime fighting. For example, more money went to the courts. The government particularly invested in support for victims and suspects. On the other hand, less money was spent on investigation and prosecution last year than in 2009.

Households, local governments and companies increased their own spending on crime fighting between 2009 and 2015. For example, companies spent more money on security and households for legal aid.
