Fugitive hunting police squad make 202 arrests
FastNL, a police squad especially for hunting fugitive criminals, arrested 202 fugitives since it was established early 2015, a spokesperson for the police's national unit confirmed to Dutch newspaper AD.
According to the spokesperson, together the 202 now caught fugitives have to serve 257 years in prison. 170 of them were caught by the team itself. The other 32 were arrested by other police officers in traffic checks or on the street.
"We are satisfied with the first results of FastNL", the police spokesperson said.
The team is looking for 130 criminals currently residing abroad that have not yet been apprehended. 48 fugitives are currently in a country that does not have an extradition treaty with the Netherlands.
