Opposition parties call on Dutch govt. to take in 750 child refugees

Opposition parties D66, SP, ChristenUnie and GroenLinks are calling on the government to take in 750 unaccompanied refugee children as soon as possible, the Telegraaf reports. Thousands of children are camped at the Greek-Macedonian border, among others, without their parents. According to the opposition parties, they are living in horrible conditions, are at risk of exploitation and abuse and they lack any form of education, thereby losing out on a chance of a good future. The parties want the government to bring at least 750 of these children to the Netherlands by the end of the year. State Secretary Klaas Dijkhoff of Security and Justice, also responsible for asylum, could not comment on the matter during the parliamentary debate on it on Thursday, but said he will consult with his foreign colleagues.
