Fathers deserve 3 months of paid paternity leave: D66

The D66 wants three months of paid paternity leave - one of the points in the party's election campaign set to be presented on Friday. According to Statistics Netherlands' calculations, this will cost around 200 million euros a year, AD reports. "Many fathers want to spend more time with their children", said D66 parliamentarian Steven van Weyenberg. The party also believes that extending the paternity leave will offer women more opportunities in the labor market. Extra paternity leave has been a topic in the Netherlands for some time. The current government extended it from two to five days. The PvdA wanted more, but it was not feasible in the cabinet with the VVD.
