Youth care complaints skyrocket

There was a significant increase in the number of complaints regarding youth care in the Netherlands during the first half of this year, according to the advice and complaint office for youth care AKJ. In the first half of 2016 there were 6,465 complaints, compared to a total of 7,404 throughout all of 2015, the Telegraaf reports. According to the AKJ, an independent foundation funded by the association of Dutch municipalities VNG, most of the complaints were about the way parents and children were treated. There were also numerous complaints about inadequate information provision from bot youth aid agencies and municipalities. The organization attributes the increase in complaints partly to changes within youth care, which was made the responsibility of municipalities last year.
