Amsterdam mistaken identity target seriously hurt in Leiden shooting

A 50-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting incident at the intersection of Rooseveltsraat and Gieterijstraat in Leiden on Tuesday evening. The victim was the same man who was shot in the second shooting at an office building in Derkinderenstraat in Amsterdam last year, a police officer confirmed to NU.nl According to a police statement, Tuesday's shooting happened at around 6:00 p.m. Several shots ere fired. Officers responded and found the 50-year-old man lying in the street with several bullet wounds. The shooters were wearing balaclavas and fled on a scooter in the direction of Telderskade. Paramedics started helping the victim and officers closed off the area for a large scale search. Numerous police units searched a wide area around Rooseveltsraat. A police helicopter was deployed and residents were asked on Twitter to keep an eye out for anything suspicious, but to no avail. The perpetrators are still at large. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent several surgeries during the night. His current condition is unknown. A spokesperson for the police told NU.nl that the victim was the same man who was injured in an Amsterdam shooting last year. The former director of a construction company survived an assassination attempt in Derkinderenstraat in Amsterdam in November last year. A few weeks earlier Turkish former lawyer Haydar Zengin was gunned down in the building. Zengin's family and friends believe he was the victim of mistaken identity, and that the real target was the former director.
