Kiki Bertens earns €500,000 for French Open performance

While Dutch tennis star Kiki Bertens did not manage to go through to the final of the Roland Garros on Friday, the past two weeks were not a complete loss. By reaching the semi-finals, in which she lost to Serena Williams on Friday, Bertens earned a small 500 thousand euros in prize money, Z24 reports. The 24-year-old Dutch woman also reached the quarter finals in doubles, earning 68 thousand euros in prize money. Though that money will be shared with Swedish doubles partner Johanna Larsson. So far this year Bertens earned a total of over 700 thousand euros in prize money. In all of her career the prize money amounts to some 1.7 million euros.. "I was in pain, much pain. It did not feel good", Bertens said after her match against Williams, according to Z24. "But I also enjoyed it. I gave it my best and am very proud."
