Tourist dies of water intoxication in Amsterdam hotel room

An autopsy done on the body of a tourist which was found in an Amsterdam hotel last weekend showed that the woman died of water intoxication, a police spokesperson confirmed to the Telegraaf. The tourist's body was found in the room of a hotel on Vossiusstraat in Amsterdam on Sunday. Her identity has not been revealed. According to the police, the woman drank a fatal amount of water after using soft drugs. "And that is more than a few liters", the police spokesperson said to the newspaper. Drinking very, very large amounts of water reduces the salt content in the blood. Your body's cells take in more and more water and starts to swell. This also happens to the brain, which leads to a coma and then death, according to the newspaper. Ecstasy users run a risk of water intoxication.
