Dutch trains getting into more accidents; 41 percent are fatal

There were 32 collisions involving a train at a railway crossing in the Netherlands last year. That is an increase of more than 39 percent compared to the 23 accidents in 2014. Almost 41 percent of the collisions were fatal, ProRail announced in its annual report on Tuesday, Telegraaf reports. "We unfortunately still see much dangerous behavior on and around crossings", ProRail writes. "We filed reports in a number of cases and do so more often. We are continuing to invest in information and campaigns." On a positive note, fewer train drivers ran a red light last year. This happened 86 times in 2015, compared to 98 times in 2015 and even 152 times in 2013. ProRail tries to plan the train schedules in such a manner that drivers encounter as few red lights as possible.
