Dutch journalist stuck in Turkey refuses police protection

Dutch journalist Ebru Umar decided to refuse the Turkish police's offer for protection. The Dutch embassy called in the Turkish police after threats made against Umar. But she feels that extra protection is unnecessary, the Telegraaf reports. "I thanked the Turkish police for the offer to keep an extra eye on me, but I do not feel threatened here in Turkey", she said to the newspaper. "I'm still an anonymous person here. I do not need to draw attention to myself by suddenly walking around with security." Umar was ordered not to leave Turkey on Sunday. The Turks are charging her for insulting president Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Twitter, something that can be done due to her Turkish nationality.
