World War II, Military Museum up for national museum honors
The National Military Museum in Soest, the National Monument Kamp Vught and the Resistance Museum in Amsterdam are this year's three nominees for the BankGiro Lottery Museum Prize. From today the public can vote which of the museums should get the prize via this site.
Military historian Christ Klep is the expert judge on the jury this year. He hopes to draw more of an audience to the three war museums.
"While it does not hurt to think about our welfare for a moment, our democracy and Europe largely have roots in war", Klep said to the Telegraaf. According to him, the war museums offer more than just a day out. "They are places of memory. Places to think about how we got where we are. And above all to learn from."
