Brawl at V&D liquidation sale forces Rijswijk store to close early

Frustration among a throng of shoppers turned into a fight at the final liquidation sale of a V&D department store location in Rijswijk, Zuid-Holland. The store, which had a massive number of people trying to get inside during the day, was forced to shut its doors early when police arrived on the scene. Several people were injured in the fight, the Telegraaf reported. Officers were needed to break up the fight between shoppers in the store, Omroep West reported. A combination of police officers and crime tape was used to keep people away from the scene by about 1 p.m. The store will only reopen when "adequate security" may be provided, a store official told the broadcaster. Those who were already inside at the time of the closing were allowed to walk once around the store and complete their purchases.
