Dutch drone flyers advance in $1 million Dubai tournament

Super Quadcopter Gang, the Dutch team competing in the first ever major drone tournament - the World Drone Prix in Dubai - is through to the final round. A massive one million dollars in prizes is up for grabs, with the winner getting $250 thousand. The team made it through to the final "with flying colors", though that doesn't mean it was easy, team member Martijn de Kemp said to broadcaster NOS. "At one point we had to fly five rounds in one go on a very complex track. For us it was a matter of searching for the right balance between the right speed and not taking too much risk", he said. In another round the drone had to navigate a number of obstacles at high speed. Eventually 32 of the 80 teams went through to compete for the grand prize in the final on Friday and Saturday. A correction was made to this story about the amount of money available in prizes for the contest.
