Gift certificates to remain valid minimum 3 years

Gift certificates will remain valid for at least three years from now on, consumers association Consumentenbond and foundation Keurmerk Cadeaukaarten announced on Monday, news wire ANP reports. According to the two parties, the most common complaint from consumers is about the short validity period of gift cards and vouchers. Hence the new agreement, which includes VVV Cadeubon, Fleurop Bloemenbon, De Pluim, Nederlandse Boekenbon, Nationale EntertainmentCard and Weekendjeweg.nl. The 3 years validity period applies to physical products. Gift certificates for experiences, such as a hot air balloon ride or a spa treatment, will be valid for two years, with the possibility of extending it with another year. Consumentenbond and Keurmerk Cadeukaarten also announced the establishment of a committee specifically for handling disputes surrounding gift cards.
