Utrecht to move scooters off bike paths; polluting mopeds banned from center

The city of Utrecth decided to move scooters off the bike paths and onto the road starting March next year. This is one of the measures the municipality announced on Thursday to reduce nuisance and pollution caused by scooters and mopeds. According to the municipality, the implementation of obligatory helmet wear on scooters, made it possible to move them to the roadway. The city will also seize "dangerously parked" scooters from next year, and the owner will be responsible for the costs. Finally the city is also investigating the possibilities of creating an environmental zone in 2020 where only fully electrical scooters and mopeds will be allowed. The necessary research still has to be done on how to implement and maintain such a zone before the municipal council can make a final decision.
