Electric smart scooter with replaceable battery ready for Amsterdam

The Gogoro Smartscooter will soon be heading to Amsterdam. On Tuesday the company announced its intentions to launch its electric smart scooter with replaceable battery and the accompanying energy network in Amsterdam during the first half of 2016, and in other European cities later in the year. The Gogoro Smartscooter is the world's first high-performance, electric two-wheel vehicle with replaceable batteries, according to the company. It was first introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show early last year. To introduce the electric smart scooter and the Gogoro Energy Network - the battery-swapping infrastructure - to Amsterdam, Gogoro will be working with Amsterdam Smart City, a partnership between government, Amsterdam residents, companies and research institutions. "Many European cities are embracing innovation and new business models to drive a more efficient and flexible energy future. This is why Gogoro is expanding into Europe in 2016", Horace Luke, co-founder and CEO of Gogoro, said at the announcement. "The Gogoro Smartscooter and Gogoro Energy Network were designed to ignite this urban transition and Gogoro is working closely with Amsterdam and other European cities to make the transition to a new energy infrastructure a reality." "Amsterdam is widely considered a forward thinking global leader in smart city innovation and we are excited to be welcoming Gogoro to Amsterdam as a participant in Amsterdam's Smart City Experience Lab and as Gogoro's first European market" Ger Baron, CTO of the City of Amsterdam, said at the announcement. "Electric transport is not only the future, but happening right now. The next wave of innovation is the integration of electric vehicles into the energy grid, EV charging and storage will be part of the energy-internet. Gogoro is now bringing scooters to the 21st century and connecting them to the smart energy ecosystem.”
