Museum hunts for 2,000 year old mummy's missing teeth

The Drents Museum in Assen launched a search for the teeth of the Netherlands' most famous mummy - the Yde Girl. The mummy had a complete set of teeth when she was found in May 1897, but currently only has one left. "Maybe they were lost, maybe someone took them out of curiosity or as a souvenir and still have them somewhere", Vincent van Vilsteren, curator of archaeology at the museum, said to NU. He acknowledges that the chance of actually finding the teeth after 120 years is "actually only theoretical". "But you never know." The museum is also planning a procession for when the mummy will be temporarily returned to Yde in 2017. It is believed that the Yde girl died when she was about 16 years old. She died a violent death - she was punished or sacrificed.
