Father and teen son suspected in supermarket bombings

Two suspects, a 50-year-old father and his 15-year-old teen son, have been arrested on suspicion of extortion, and the father for planting explosives at the Jumbo supermarket chain earlier in this year. The men were arrested on Friday when they attempted to extort a Jumbo store. After details of the case hit publications, the police received 322 tips of details relating to the case, was revealed at a press conference on Tuesday. Police came across the perpetrators through the use of kitchen timers, visiting over 170 people who had purchased the timers from Blokker stores across Groningen. The man had been described by police to be between the ages of 20 and 40 years old with knowledge of both computer systems and electronics, as well as explosives. The man was attempting to extort large amounts of bitcoins, a digital currency, that the store refused to pay. An explosion that went off in May at a store in Groningen caused considerable damage, luckily no one was injured. Another unexploded bomb was found at a store in the same area.
