Newly purchased Monet unveiled at Zaans Museum

The recently purchased Monet painting entitled “Voorzaan and Westerhem” was unveiled yesterday at the Zaans Museum in Zaandam, Noord-Holland. It is the museum’s most expensive purchase in its history. The 1.2 million euro purchase was made possible thanks to the help of, among others, the Rembrandt Assocaition. The painting is one of the 25 works that were completed by the French painter Claude Monet, who was inspired by the landscape, mills, wooden house and the river Zaan during a four month stay in the Zaandam with his wife and children. The Zaans Museum is now one of only three Monet artworks in the country featuring Zaandam. The other being Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and the Kroller-Muller Museum in Otterlo, Gelderland.
