Dutch acid-throwing attacker not insane, says court psychiatrist

Dutch suspect Jelle F. was not legally insane when he threw acid on a cleaning lady at a supermarket in Belgium, sources close to the investigation told news agency Belga. He previously confessed to the crime in front of a magistrate, and through his lawyer said he wanted "to take revenge on society," RTL Nieuws reported. F., from Amsterdam, was running an extortion scheme against the Delhaize grocery store chain, which reportedly attempted to pay him off. Despite this, he is said to have thrown acid at the worker at one of the store locations in Antwerp on February 20. The woman sustained serious injuries in the incident. It is still not known why the cleaner and her employer were targeted. Neither the suspect's attorney nor the prosecutor would comment on the case. A court on Thursday remanded F. into custody for another month while the investigation continues.
