Prosecutor: Newborn found dead in a bag was not stillborn

The newborn baby whose body was found in a shopping bag in Eindhoven on March 10th last year, was not a stillborn baby. A forensic investigation showed that the girl had lived after birth. The Public Prosecutor announced this on Monday, adding that recent reports that it could not conclusively be established are incorrect. The child's mother, a 27 year old woman from Eindhoven, will be appearing in court on Friday. She is facing charges of hiding a body. The woman initially faced charges of manslaughter, but the indictment was changed partly because the exact cause of the baby girl's death could not be determined. The woman and her partner were arrested a few hours after the baby's body was discovered. The man was released a short time later after investigation revealed that he was not involved in the baby's death. He was not the girl's father.
